The conventional framing is that speed and quality are in tension. Move quickly and accuracy suffers. Hold for accuracy and the moment passes. The choice presents itself as a trade. Most firms accept the framing and pick a side, usually permanently.

The framing is not always correct. A firm built around the question of pace can move quickly without sacrificing the standard, because the firm has already done the work that makes fast decisions possible. The infrastructure, the people, the process, the judgment, are all in place before the moment arrives. When the work shows up, the firm does not have to assemble itself to answer.

There is a different kind of slow that is corrosive. It is the slow that comes from layered process, deferred judgment, and decisions that nobody owns. That is not deliberation. It is paralysis dressed as prudence. The firm that mistakes one for the other accepts a standard of pace that no counterparty would tolerate if they understood what they were paying for.

Speed is part of the work. So is restraint. The discipline is knowing which the moment requires. The firm that does this consistently is unusual. Most firms default to a single speed and apply it regardless. The firm that calibrates is the firm that the work is actually built around.
